Moong Dal Halwa

A rich sweet dish prepared using split Green Gram. This is very popular in North India especially in Rajasthan.

Time Required: 30 Minutes





Ingredients:

1 Cup split Green Gram
1 Cup Milk
¾ Cup Sugar
½ Cup Ghee

2tbsp Nuts (Cashew nuts, Pistachios, Badam/Almonds)


Method – 1:

Heat 1tbsp Ghee in a small pan and fry the nuts until they turn pink. Keep aside. Roast split Green Gram and powder coarsely. In another thick-bottomed pan add Green Gram powder, Milk and Sugar and cook on low flame. Keep stirring continuously. Add 2tbsp Ghee. Cook until the mixture starts leaving the sides and forms a lump. Now, add the nuts and the remaining Ghee and mix well. Remove to a greased plate and serve hot.

Method – 2:

Heat 1tbsp Ghee in a small pan and fry the nuts until they turn pink. Keep aside. Soak Green Gram for 3 hours and grind coarsely. Heat Ghee in a thick-bottomed pan and add the Green Gram paste and fry on low flame until it turns light pink. Keep aside.

In another pan add the Sugar and Milk and cook until the Sugar dissolves. Now add the Green Gram paste and mix well. Cook until the mixture starts leaving the sides. Add the nuts and mix well and serve hot. If required more Ghee can be added.
